How Do I Report an Absence?

If your child will be absent, please notify the school as soon as possible using one of the methods below.

Option 1: Call the School

Call the Canyon Creek Elementary front office at (559) 645-3520 and speak with the front office receptionist to report your child's absence.

Option 2: Report the Absence Through ParentSquare

Parents and guardians can report student absences directly through ParentSquare using one of the following methods.

Method 1: Respond to an Attendance Alert

1. Open the ParentSquare app or click the link in the automated absence text message or email you received.
2. Locate the attendance notification indicating that your child was marked absent.
3. Select Send Note to School (or Send Response).
4. Enter the reason for your child's absence.
5. Click Submit to send your note directly to the school's attendance office.

Method 2: Send a Direct Message

1. Open the ParentSquare app and navigate to your child's school.
2. Select Messages from the bottom menu.
3. Tap the + (plus) icon and choose Direct Messages.
4. Search for and select the school's Attendance Office or Attendance Clerk.
5. Type your message and include the following information:
   • Student's full name
   • Grade level
   • Date(s) of the absence
   • Reason for the absence
6. Select Send.

Independent Study

Students may participate in an Independent Study program for a variety of reasons, including illness or family travel that requires multiple days away from school.

Please contact the Canyon Creek Elementary office if your child will need an Independent Study contract. All completed Independent Study work must be submitted within one week of the student's return to school.

Independent Study requests for vacations must be submitted to the school office at least two weeks in advance. Requests may be denied if a student:

• Is not making satisfactory academic progress.
• Has been identified as truant through the district attendance process.
• Has failed to complete a previous Independent Study contract during the current school year.

To receive attendance credit, students must complete and submit all assigned coursework.

How Can I Get Involved?

We encourage all parents and guardians to become active members of the Canyon Creek Elementary community!

To volunteer at school, please pick up a Volunteer Packet from the main office. Once your volunteer clearance is complete, speak with your child's teacher about opportunities to serve as a classroom volunteer or room parent.

You can also join the Canyon Creek Parent Club. The Parent Club plays an important role in supporting our school by organizing fundraising events, volunteering at school activities, and helping create memorable experiences for our students and families.
